Artist's Biography

Born Limerick 1945. Educated Salesian School, Limerick School of Art, and N.C.A. Dublin. Awarded A.T.C. in 1969. Taught art in Dublin, Kilkenny  for two decades  while also painting and exhibiting. She has held over 30 solo shows, including the Belltable, the Source Thurles, Davis Gallery Dublin, Lavitt Gallery Cork, Air Gallery London, also in Copenhagen and Coblenz. Interesting  show in the Hunt Museum in 2016. Many group shows include, the R.H.A., the Oireachtas Exhibition, Sligo Small Works, S.A,D,E. Cork, All Plus Ten Sorts, Limerick Artists Exhibition in Temple Bar, Limerick Artists in Butler Gallery Kilkenny and many more. Kate always had a keen interest in colourful  fabrics, and for many years worked on her own. However around 8 years ago she joined the Irish Patchwork Society Mid-West branch and has shown quilts and wall hangings in exhibitions in Birmingham International Quilt Festival, in Dublin, and Northern Ireland which is  called “Hands Across the Border”. Recently involved in the exhibition in St. Mary’s Cathedral of many  stitched works commemorating all those unjustly killed in the recent Troubles. Both sides of the communities  are represented. This work was made by members of  SEFF  The South East Fermanagh Foundation and Michael Potter was also involved  in arranging this very important exchange between our two communities. Kate has a great interest is in travel, and exploring the art ,architecture and music  all these  wonderful countries. In each one she makes a written and sketched record and brings watercolours too. She is particularly drawn to the Islamic cultures such as those in Morocco, Tunisia, Iran and of course India which is predominately Hindu because of the richness of colour and design  Her ambition is to travel to Japan and enjoy the Temples, crafts and see Mt. Fuji while it still has some snow left.
