Belonging: Performances by Cikada Circus

Cikada Circus Performance

On the 16th and 17th April we were treated to a mesmerising performance by the wonderful Cikada Circus.

A dancer performs on a wooden gallery floor, doing a handstand, while another swings a rope. Visitors watch intently against a backdrop of colourful art.
A person in a tank top interacts with a mannequin wrapped in fabric, set against a vibrant backdrop of abstract colourful coils on a museum wall.
A man in a gallery pulls a large beige fabric that stretches over his shoulders, covering the floor. Abstract art hangs on teal walls, creating a contemplative mood.
A woman crouches, helping a man balance on his head in a gallery. Behind them, a colourful seashell artwork hangs on a teal wall. The scene feels dynamic.
A dancer wrapped in beige fabric interacts with a man, both barefoot, in a gallery. The backdrop features colourful, abstract cone art on a teal wall.
Two people sit on a wooden floor under a beige sheet, forming a makeshift tent. The mood is playful and curious, with a dark green wall and colourful art behind them.

This duo performance piece was commissioned by the Belonging exhibition, Limerick. The piece was created specifically for indoor spaces, and revolves around the performers using stretch fabric to create moving sculptures, abstract shapes and forms to heighten senses and scenes of belonging in varying forms. The fabric aids in balancing physical and metaphorical connections between two acrobatic movement artists.

The development of the show was supported by Arts Council Ireland and Nenagh Arts Centre.
