Summer Exhibition:  Lavery & Osborne: Observing Life

This exhibition featured selected works by Sir John Lavery (1856-1941) and Walter Frederick Osborne (1859-1903) two of the foremost Irish artists of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, many from private collections, being shown publicly for the first time.

They lived parallel lives travelling to artists’ colonies in Europe to develop their artistic styles. Influences from their sojourns abroad are reflected in a naturalistic style, from scenes of daily life which demonstrate their observations of traditional ways of life to more formal portraits.
