Hunt Museum Studios

Hunt Museum  Studios, a  new space in the Museum, is dedicated to creative expression in clay. Throughout August,  LSAD ceramic students – Catriona, Gary and Paul – will facilitate clay based children’s art workshops for kids aged 6 – 14 years. During these workshops kids will have a whirl at the pottery wheel and learn new skills through hand building activities.

Clay Based workshops will run Every Tuesday & Thursday from 2nd – 25th of August
Kids age 6- 10 years : 10 am – 12 pm
Kids age 11- 14 years: 2pm – 4 pm
Cost: € 5  per child
Location: Hunt Museum Studios

All Materials provided. It is advised to bring an apron or wear old clothes as each workshops provides children with the opportunity to have some messy fun, especially when trying out the pottery wheel.

Sgraffito Workshops

Sgraffito Workshops

2nd & 4th of August.

10am – 12pm- Suitable for 6 – 10 years

2 – 4pm Suitable for 11 – 14 years

Take inspiration from our Ancient Greek collection to create some unique carved tiles using Sgraffito ceramic techniques. Sgraffito is a pottery decorating technique that involves scratching off parts of painted clay to create popping images, patterns and textures in the clay.

13th - 17th Century inspired pottery

Tuesday 9th & Thursday 11th of August

10am – 12pm- Suitable for 6 – 10 years

2 – 4pm Suitable for 11 – 14 years

Learn how to create ceramic jugs, similar to those in the Hunt’s pottery collection, which showcases a wide range of ceramic jugs dating from the 13th – 17th Century. During this workshop you will learn how to throw pots on the pottery wheel and how to create jugs using hand-building, coiling techniques.

Heritage Week Special - Medieval Bells Workshop

Tuesday 16th & Thursday 18th of August

10am – 12pm- Suitable for 6 – 10 years

2 – 4pm Suitable for 11 – 14 years

The new Hunt Museum Studios will host a Clay through the Ages special for Heritage Week. It will see participants construct bells in air drying clay, decorated with medieval forms found in the collection using coloured slip. The workshop will start with a guided tour of the Hunt Museum’s ceramic art to travel through time and learn how clay was used throughout history. The tour will explore a variety of techniques used to make and decorate clay based objects from a range of time periods. Participants will learn about development of technologies and styles over time and how this has influenced how ceramic objects are made, used, kept and loved. Participants will then connect to our Medieval handbells on display in the Summer exhibition – The Artefacts Project and create and decorate their own bell.

Sacred House Workshop

Tuesday 23rd & Thursday 25th of August

10am – 12pm- Suitable for 6 – 10 years

2 – 4pm Suitable for 11 – 14 years

Create your own Sacred House using slab building Ceramic Techniques. This workshop shows kids how to create a masterpiece using shapes. Children will design their owns special house using shapes, patterns, textures and coloured slip.
