Crucifix (Penal cross)
Description
A wooden crucifix, known as a penal cross, it is carved with a simple crucifix figure which has an arc with incised lines and the letters INRI carved above the head. There is a small cross IHS and the date 1799 inscribed on the back. There is a suspension loop at top of the cross. This type of cross is believed to be a souvenir from the pilgrimage site at Lough Derg, Co. Donegal.
