Hohenzollern corpus

Description

This bronze crucifix figure shows Christ with open eyes and feet nailed separately. The figure is crowned and the loin-cloth is long. The folds of the loin-cloth radiate out from a knot at the upper right side of the figure. Mosan (valley of the Meuse) or German.

File of material relating to the Hohenzollern Crucifix. Includes photocopy of information card with photocopy of image of object (date unspecified). Annotation states that object was formerly part of the Hohenzollern collection, Sigmarigen; photocopy of extract from '50 Treasures from the Hunt Collection' (Limerick: Hunt Museum Executive, 1993) by Patrick Doran which comprises description of object; photocopy of extract from exhibition catalogue (c. 1970) issued by the Metropolitan Museum of Art to coincide with its exhibition, 'The Year 1200,' held between 12 February-10 May 1970. Extract describes the present object which was exhibited. Image of object also present; photocopy of extract from publication entitled 'From the year 1200 - A background survey' (Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1970) which comprises image and description of a crucifix signed by Berlinghieri Berlinghiero, Tuscany, 1210-1220; photocopy of extract from exhibition catalogue in German (c. 1973) issued by the Schnutgen Museum, Cologne, where crucifix was included in exhibition. Exhibition was entitled 'Rhein und Maas, Kunst und Kultur 800-1400' and extract describes and contains image of crucifix.
