Life and A World of Wild Animals by Thérèse Tynan. Handmade collage on paper

Thérèse Tynan (b.1995) is a visual artist from County Laois living and working in Limerick City. She received her BA in Printmaking and Contemporary Practice in 2019.She has most recently exhibited work in the ‘Limerick Show’ at Ormston House, ‘Artist’s for Ukraine’ at LSAD and ‘Maximalism Exhibition’ at Spacecraft.Thérèse is currently working on a collaborative collage and sound exhibition with artist/producer Mankyy which will open at Spacecraft Studios, Mungret Street, Limerick on the 21st of July.

Thérèse’s interest lies in conjuring up hybrid images and abstracting them to the point where it is difficult to recognise their original source. Through the act of collage she is looking for interactions between images that originally did not have any, and then interlocking them together like a puzzle.Thérèse uses her art as a tool to reflect society which one can use as a means to identify and delineate our own beliefs and views, our own stories and personal feelings. By using the traditional medium of collage, she purposefully disengages from technology in order to find a more fundamental means of exploring private subjects and thoughts.

She uses her collages as a means of cataloguing her own feelings and experiences through her own pictorial language, creating them out of compulsion to document both fleeting thoughts and fixed characteristics of herself.
