Belonging was a major art exhibition featuring artworks from the European Investment Bank’s Art Collection that ran from February 10 – April 24 2022. Belonging featured 82 artworks by European artists from the 27 countries of the EU, the UK, and other artists with close links to Europe.
About the Exhibition
The exhibition was curated by Delphine Munro, Head of Arts & Culture at the EIB Institute. Munro is responsible for all Arts and Culture activities for the EIB Group. The exhibition was supported by Limerick City and County Council, the Irish Department of Tourism, Culture & Arts, the University of Limerick, Technology University of the Shannon, Shannon Foynes Port Authority and embassies of EU Member States.
It was hosted by the Hunt Museum, Limerick City Gallery of Art, Mary Immaculate College, Sailors Home, People’s Museum, St Mary’s Cathedral, and the University of Limerick’s Plassey House, Bourn Vincent Gallery and East Room.
Renowned European artists such as Paula Rego, Sean Scully, Isobel Nolan, Tony Cragg, Anish Kapoor, and Jannis Kounellis featured in the exhibition. Also, artists of note with a strong European connection such as Andy Warhol and Marlene Dumas were included in the exhibition, along with artists from the UK such as Fiona Rae and Callum Innes.
The Launch Night
The launch event for Belonging took place on February 10th, 2022 in Saint Mary’s Cathedral and The Hunt Museum.

There was a panel session comprising: Minister of State Thomas Byrne, French Embassy and EU Presidency, Ambassador Guérand, President of the University of Limerick; Kerstin Mey, Climate activist Saoirse Exton, facilitated by John Moran, Chair of the European Expo and The Hunt Museum.
