National Heritage Week is just around the corner taking place from Saturday, 17th to Sunday, 25th August. This annual initiative celebrates Ireland’s rich cultural heritage, fostering appreciation and preservation through a diverse range of events and activities.

We invite you to join us at The Hunt Museum for an engaging and enlightening Heritage Week, where this year’s museum theme focuses on biodiversity. Celebrating the rich life that sustains our planet, we are excited to present a variety of events and activities that highlight the importance of biodiversity in our daily lives.

Heritage Week: Creepy Crawlies Exhibition & Apollo God of Nature

Visit our museum for a guided tour of the family-friendly Creepy Crawlies: LOVE/HATE exhibition. Get up close to nature’s most intriguing creatures through interactive displays. Experience the wonders of biodiversity with our fascinating Apollo statue as your guide. 

Date: Tuesday 20th, Thursday 22nd & Friday 23rd August

Time: 2pm

Admission: No charge and no booking needed.

 

Heritage Week: Creepy Crawlies Exhibition & Apollo God of Nature Autism Friendly Event

We’re delighted to offer an autism friendly Creepy Crawlies: LOVE/HATE exhibition experience to families. During it, children will have the option to explore with a guide or at their own pace. They will have the opportunity to expand their knowledge using technology based exhibition interactives and even arts and crafts. 

What to expect:

The light levels in the exhibition will be lowered and visitor numbers will be limited to those who have booked for this event. Fidgets, ear protectors and access to our sensory room will be available, and Museum staff will be on hand to offer support. A visual story on this event will be sent to all families who book places. 

Please note that this exhibition presents live examples of insects. If your child has a phobia of these, this exhibition may not be suitable.

Times: Session 1 is at 2pm to 3pm. Session 2 is at 3pm to 4pm.

Heritage Week:  Apollo God of Nature Live Audio Described Tour

This live audio description tour of the Hunt Museum Permanent Collection will be led by volunteers with visual impairment and by museum docent volunteers. It will celebrate some of our most iconic objects, including our Statue of Apollo. A selection of tactile resources will be used to enhance object interpretation during the tour.

What to Expect:

The tour for adults will depart from the Museum Reception area. Up to three objects on each of the three floors of the Permanent Collection will be explored.  

Please note that all floors of the Museum have lift access. 

The Museum will do its best to facilitate requests for reasonable accommodations.

Heritage Week: Build Your Own Bug Hotel!

Join us for a hands-on workshop and create a cosy habitat for insects. Perfect for families, our facilitators will help you design and build a bug hotel using natural materials. Discover how these tiny homes support biodiversity and learn fun facts about our insect friends. Ideal for all ages, this activity is a fantastic way to connect with nature!

Heritage Week: Exciting Bug Hunt Trail!

Stop by the front desk to collect your bug hunt trail map and embark on an adventure in our garden. Kids will love searching for hidden creepy crawlies and learning about their habitats. It’s a fun and educational experience that encourages exploration and curiosity about nature. Perfect for young explorers!
