This Halloween we have a spooktacular line-up of events over 7 deadly days.

Spooky Animal Hunt - A Halloween Adventure at The Hunt Museum!

Date: Saturday, 18 October – Sunday, 2 November
Time: Available during opening hours

This Halloween join us for a spook-tacular animal safari through the Hunt Museum.

Specially designed for kids! Creep through the galleries and see how many hidden creatures you can spot in the art, from ancient times to modern masterpieces.

What animals will you discover?
Why do artists create such wild and wonderful beasts?

Do they look like real animals  or are they a little more magical… or even a bit spooky?
Keep your eyes wide open… you might even bump into some mythical monsters with strange and spooky powers lurking in the shadows!

Each child will receive a special Halloween activity booklet packed with fun drawing challenges, creepy clues and mysterious missions to help uncover the creatures hiding throughout the museum.

Don’t forget to collect your trick-or-treat surprise at reception… if you dare!

Halloween Decoration Workshop

Memento Mori Tour of the Hunt Museum Collection

Step into the shadows of history with the Memento Mori Tour at the Hunt Museum.

A thought-provoking journey through the collection that explores the themes of mortality, memory, and the human condition. Drawing from the Latin phrase meaning “remember you must die”, this guided tour invites visitors to reflect on how death, legacy and the afterlife have been represented in art and artifacts across time and cultures.

From religious iconography and funerary objects to symbolic motifs and philosophical reflections on the fleeting nature of life. The tour uncovers the deeper meanings behind selected works in the museum’s rich collection. Discover how artists and craftsmen have grappled with the inevitability of death. Not only to mourn but to celebrate life and the stories we leave behind. Perfect for those with an interest in art history, philosophy or the macabre.

This unique experience offers a compelling lens through which to view the Hunt Museum’s treasures.

'The returning dead' in Irish folklore - presented by Dr Clodagh Tait (Mary Immaculate College)

The returning dead were very much part of Irish tradition. They might returen becuase they were not truly dead, having been taken by the fairies. But the ghosts of even the definitively dead were believed by many to linger or permanently in their communities, being particularly associated with graveyards and with their own homes. Drawing on rich folklore sources, this lecture, led by Dr. Clodagh Tait, explores Irish beliefs about where the dead were thought to appear, what they sought, and how the living responded to their ghostly visits.

Bird of Prey Mask Making Workshop
