Áine Finnegan uses her practice to map her personal experiences and her encounters of human existence. She references natural elements like clouds, celestial and lighting symbols in her work. These symbols appear to be the only constant thing in a world of constant change. A world and life that is unusual, sometimes mysterious and exciting. She tries to understand and map these experiences for herself and suggestively for the audience.
‘Untitled’ is an image based on a lightning bolt symbol. Lighting strikes fast, life happens even faster! To contrast with this, the process of making the collagraph and watching the symbol dripping was a slow process. This gave the artist time and space to reflect. Without any direct reference to herself in the piece, the artist leaves the audience to interpret and map their own understanding from the work.
